In mid - 1984, Antah Biwater Sdn. Bhd. In conjunction with Biwater Shellabear of U.K. undertook a rural water resource study for the whole of Malaysia, including the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. BW Perunding was in the team of Consultants that carried out this study. Based on the findings of the study, the Malaysian Government awarded a turnkey project to Antah Biwater J.V. to implement some 174 water supply schemes throughout Malaysia. BW Perunding is association with Watson Hawksely U.K. was retained by the turnkey operators to engineer the rural water supply schemes in the states of Sabah and Sarawak. There are ten projects identified for Sabah totalling RM149 million which involved raw water intakes, treatment works and transmission systems complete with booster stations. The Kudat schemes also involved the construction of an earth dam of total capacity 7,500,000 cubic meters. Three of the schemes also involve groundwater extraction. For Sarawak States, there are 19 schemes estimated at a total cost of RM 172 million. A high percentage of the schemes involved pipeline extensions to existing treatment facilities and services. In the scope of the work for Sarawak, there is also a Research Project to look into ground water prospects along the costal regions. Shallow, deep and peat aquifers were studied. |
